虹の橋

天国のそばに、『虹の橋』と呼ばれる場所があります。
地上にいる誰かと親しくしていた動物は、死後『虹の橋』へ行きます。
そこには彼らの為の草地や丘が広がり、動物達は一緒に走ったり遊んだりする事が出来ます。
十分な食べ物と水、そして日光に恵まれ、暖かく快適に過ごしています。

病気であったり年老いた、全ての動物達が健康と活力を取り戻し、
傷ついたり、体に障害のある動物達も、元通りの丈夫な体を取り戻します。
過ぎ去りし日の夢の中の出来事の様に。

彼らはある一つの事を除いては、幸せに過ごしています。
皆、一様に残してきたとても大切な人…傍(かたわら)にその人が居ないのを、とても寂しく感じているのです。

動物達は走ったり遊んだりし、時を過ごしていましたが、
ある日その中の一匹が突然、足を止めて遠くに目を向けます。
目はキラキラと輝き、体はたまりかね、小刻みに震えはじめます。
突然グループから離れ、一目散に緑の草地を疾走(しっそう)します。急ぎに急いで。
あれ程会いたくて仕方のなかった、貴方を見つけたのです。

貴方達は、飛び込み抱き合い再会を喜びあいます。
もう、二度と離れ離れになる事はないのです。
喜びのキスが貴方の顔に降りそそぎ、貴方の手は愛する友の頭を愛撫(あいぶ)します。
貴方の人生からしばらくの間姿を消していたけれど、それでも心の底から消えた事がない、貴方への信頼に満ち溢れた瞳を見つめます。

そして、貴方達は一緒に『虹の橋』を渡るのです…。

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into those trusting eyes,
so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...
